SANFORD -- Seminole County Court Judge John R. Sloop was taken off criminal court today, three days after he ordered 11 people jailed for arriving late for their traffic court hearings.

All 11 had been directed to the wrong courtroom and were about two hours late for their hearings, but Sloop refused to hear their cases and had them arrested.

Records show seven people were jailed Thursday by Sloop under similar circumstances.

The order moving Sloop to the county civil court, issued by James E. C. Perry, chief judge of the 18th Judicial Circuit, goes into effect immediately and until further notice.

Eleven people jailed Friday spent eight hours or more at the Seminole County Jail before being released without being required to post bail. Sloop reversed his decision to have them jailed, although it is unclear why he had a change of heart. Attempts to reach Sloop have been unsuccessful. Perry also ordered the 11 released Friday.

The seven people jailed Thursday were not so lucky. While some were able to post bond that same day, others spent as many as three days in jail before posting bond.

Yep, Judge John Sloop was a "needle-nose" prosecutor and now prosecutes from the bench. He made fun of my neighbor and her 17-yr-old daughter making them cry in regards to the daughter's 1st-time traffic infraction. He's rude, insensitive and just plain ignorant. "Ignorance of the law is no excuse." Well, doesn't it somewhere give us the right to our day in court? So who's ignorant???? In small claims court once (which is not a criminal court, civil stuff only) he made fun of how this one guy's shorts and shirt didn't match and had the majority of the courtroom laughing at what was probably his best clothes. The man was quite distraught >>>> Judge Sloop is not even liked by his constiuents. Hardly anyone will even speak to him at events. Furthermore, it's doubtful his wife even likes him, she doesn't go to any events with him <<<<< He's NOT a fair judge at all, has no sense of the word "fairness". He should be removed from the bench and so should that idiot Judge Stevenson. Remember his comment about the rape victim at her attacker's sentencing????? "She's no day at the beach, why would anyone want to rape her?" Good Lord, so then they put him in charge of Juvenile Court. Will you get a load of that????? Then Seminole County has Judge McIntosh who denied the Father custody after his claim that the Mother was unstable (since she had just been released from an institution for the 2nd attempt on her own life). Then a couple weeks later the Mother stuffed the 3 children (who were doped up on sleeping pills) into the trundle bed thereby killing them. And Donna McIntosh is the intelligent one of these three! What kind of place is Seminole County anyway? Certainly not a good place to raise children. Phooey on Judge Sloop & Stevenson. McIntosh is smart enough to learn from her mistakes, the other two just keep making the same one's over & over again. I wish people paid more attention to the judicial races, they really are important.
